Our History
Elks Lodge #311 was established in New York and as each lodge was chartered it was consecutively numbered. Hence, the lower the number of the lodge the older it is. Beaumont Lodge was the 311th Lodge chartered in the nation, having been established in 1895.
The charter members were highly respected businessmen of the time. When you look at our Charter you see familiar names that have streets and buildings named after them.
In the early years the Beaumont Elks Lodge was located in the downtown area. Some remember it being located in an old church and later, in the 60’s moving to a 2 story building on Bowie street. In 1972 the Lodge purchased the Woodmen of the World building on Highway 90 W. and moved to their present location.
On October 2nd a power surge following Hurricane Rita completely destroyed the building and its contents. The Beaumont Elks dedicated their beautiful new building on the same site on May 3rd, 2008.
The current Beaumont Elks membership runs between 250-300 and its members include men and women from all walks of life and all ethnic backgrounds. Members include doctors, lawyers, judges, teachers, principals, medical professionals, business owners, laborers, homemakers and retired persons, from all areas of Southeast Texas.
We work and play together doing good works for the community, the Veterans, handicapped children and disadvantaged persons. We work closely with the schools on Drug Awareness and Scholarships. Funds raised locally are spent in the local community. We also help host a camp for 50 handicapped children per week for 7 weeks in the summer and purchase items for handicapped children that will make their daily life a bit better.
Renting our banquet hall for special events, dances, barbeque cook-offs, link & drink sales, garage sales and funds raised by the members are our primary source of benevolence. Many charity events are hosted at our facility to assist our Southeast Texas community in their endeavors to help those less fortunate. We partner with other organizations to provide food, clothing and necessities at holiday time.
At any given time you will find the Beaumont Elks members involved in some charitable activity in the lodge or in the community.
As one of our leaders is proud to say, “you JOIN other organizations, you BECOME an Elk.
